5 Nights / 6 Days Holiday Package
Having presented luxurious comforts set in the brilliance of heritage on the very lap of nature, Kumarakom Lake Resort would now like to present the many and most scenic destinations of Kerala to every discerning traveler. Understanding the expectations of the astute vacationer we have put together exclusive tailor- made packages that take you through the most beautiful that Kerala has to offer, giving to you the most lush and premium hideaways at each of these exotic destinations, ensuring that your entire holiday is filled with memorable experiences of sights seen and destinations enjoyed.
Day 1
On arrival at Cochin International Airport, you are greeted and whisked away to the Hotel Forte Kochi at the quaint beach town of Kerala, Fort Cochin.
Choose to spend the rest of the day at leisure at the hotel or set off on an exploration spree and take a walking tour of the ancient harbor of Cochin, with its rich majestic past. Also known as Kochi, Cochin has one of the finest natural harbors in the world and its 'Chinese fishing nets', introduced by early traders from the court of Kublai Khan, are a landmark of the Malabar Coast. The St. Francis church the oldest European-built church in India and where Vasco da Gama, the famous explorer and discoverer of India had once been buried until his remains were taken back to Portugal and the Santa Cruz Basilica, the second oldest basilica in India, are just around the corner from your hotel as well.
Or choose to take a guided tour* to the Mattancherry Palace or Dutch Palace built in 1653. Stroll down the old spice market at Mattancherry, shop at the famed antique stores on Jew Street, and visit the ancient Jew Synagogue, one of the few remnants of a community that had once thrived greatly in this small town. In the evening choose to relax and experience the rare laidback charm of Cochin on a lazy harbor cruise** or enjoy a traditional Kathakali performance***.
Overnight at the Hotel Forte Kochi.
* Optional - Guided tour at Fort Cochin.
**Optional - Evening Harbour Cruise at Fort Cochin.
*** Optional - Kathakali performance at Fort Cochin.
Day 2
After breakfast, depart from the coastal plain, traveling winding hill roads consistently wrapped on either side with lush plantations of rubber, spice and tea. En-route take a break for lunch at the Plantation House and then continue to eventually arrive at Thekkady, the entrance to the Periyar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary. Check in at the hotel and take an early evening cruise on Lake Periyar and look out for a glimpse of innumerable, even rare species of wild animals that inhabit this wildlife sanctuary, out for a drink at the lake.
This amazingly beautiful national park owes its existence to a dam constructed on the river Periyar in 1895. The resulting reservoir measures 55 square kilometers and the Park itself measures 777 square kilometers. It is one of 18 Parks in India that make up Project Tiger and whilst it boasts a healthy population of these big cats, due to its topography, the chances of a sighting are quite rare. However, you are sure to see wild elephants, monkeys, wild boar, antelopes, darters, cormorants, ospreys, kingfishers, drongos, fish owls, kites, hornbills, hill mynahs, herons, white egrets and orioles.
Overnight at Shalimar Spice Gardens, Thekkady.
Optional - Spend the rest of day in leisure and enjoy various in-house activities of the hotel including exclusive cooking demonstrations and cultural programs followed by dinner.
Day 3
After breakfast take a guided walking tour through a spice plantation and enjoy a personal experience of the nurturing of many spices that add immense flavor to life, such as cardamom, pepper, vanilla and coffee.
After lunch descend once more to sea level and head to Kerala's famous 'backwaters', a complex network of lakes, canals and rivers that support a beautiful, fragile eco-system, all at Kumarakom, a quiet village tucked away on the banks of the picturesque Vembanad Lake.
Kumarakom Lake Resort, the renowned luxury heritage resort, acclaimed several times over as India's leading resort, will be your home for the next two days. Relax and enjoy the brilliance of abundant nature amidst exotic heritage set in the lap of plush luxury at this resort created from restored authentic ancient homes and nestled right on the banks of one of the widest lakes of Asia.
Evening finds you on a sunset cruise on the lake, in a converted rice boat adrift to a flute accompaniment. Return to the resort and settle down to enjoy a rare cultural performance of authentic Kerala arts followed by dinner.
Overnight at Kumarakom Lake Resort.
Day 4
Awaken to the call of birdsong and take an early morning guided visit to the bird sanctuary where a Naturalist will assist in helping you sight several rare species of birds including various migratory birds.
Choose an afternoon walk or cycle down to the quaint village of Kumarakom for a firsthand experience of Indian village life or opt to relax at the resort trying out some of the various in-house activities including clay pottery making, weaving, fishing etc.
Relax to the strains of the flute while the sun sets around you once more, as you enjoy the sunset cruise. Complete the day with another rare cultural performance of Kerala.
Overnight stay on Kumarakom Lake Resort.
Day 5
After breakfast, check-in on the resort's traditionally styled luxury houseboat, where you are cared for by an immaculate crew and a personal chef. Settle down to enjoy the serene charm of the famous Vembanad Lake with a breezy cruise from Kumarakom to Alleppey on a Houseboat (Kettuvallam), a popular and unique attribute of Kerala. Enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner on the houseboat right in the middle of the lake and experience the thrills of mooring for the night right on the glistening lake!
The backwaters are the finest jewels in Kerala's crown. An intricate system of lakes, rivers and small canals that supports an incredible variety of wildlife, particularly birds, and where you will see traditional village life as it has been lived for centuries. A holiday in Kerala is incomplete without a houseboat cruise!
